Prednisone tablets have been around for many years and they have been used by different people under different treatment circumstance.  Basically, prednisone tablets have quite a number of treatment properties which is the reason why doctors prescribe the medicine to patients with varying issues or ailments.  For the most part though, prednisone tablets are used for treating inflammatory issues that develops as a response from different medical or physical conditions.  As a corticosteroid drug, prednisone tablets have been meant to treat any inflammation issues a person can develop.  Such inflammatory response by the body often needs immediate treatment due to some being quite dangerous not just with the health of the person involved, but also their life.

Inflammation ailments vary greatly as there are literally a number of ways in which you can develop an inflammatory issue.  Some of the simple but more popular types of inflammations include:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis – a very painful condition that comes as a result of joints being inflamed. This autoimmune disease is often chronic thereby giving its bearer pain condition that is hard to tolerate.  Using prednisone tablets can help ease away the swelling and thus provide additional pain relief from the discomfort brought about by the condition.  Prednisone tablets are often used in tandem with pain medications to provide more effective pain relief over rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Allergies – an allergic attack when a person gets exposed to items, food, or materials with which his body is hypersensitive to. This hypersensitivity to certain allergens mainly involves the immune system.  If an allergic reaction occurs, the immune system starts releasing chemicals that will fight of the substance the body is hypersensitive to.  This results in swelling on different areas of the body.  If the body’s reaction does not get interrupted through medical means, the person undergoing the attack may suffer from bodily damage or even death.  Through the use of prednisone tablets, the resulting allergic attack will subside and thus make the patient feel more comfortable.
  • Asthma – asthma is a well-known respiratory issue that is common among kids but may also develop in adults. When a person has an asthma attack, the lungs and air passageway becomes inflamed, thus making the person undergoing the asthma attack have great difficulty breathing.  Through prednisone tablets use, the inflammation will subside and thus make it easier for that person to breathe.  Although bronchodilators are more recommended for this respiratory ailment, prednisone tablets can be used for emergency purposes.

Another use of prednisone tablets that do not involve treating inflammatory conditions is its treatment property that falls under immunosuppressant.  Basically, what this effect does is that it lowers the activity of the immune system.  Although a treatment that is not useful in most cases, the immunosuppressant treatment property of prednisone tablets is in fact quite useful when a patient will undergo organ transplant.  Since prednisone tablets lowers the sensitivity of the immune system over foreign objects that gets inside the body, surgeons are able to successfully transplant organs to the body without having to worry that the immune system will attack it.  Of course, dual treatment property of prednisone tablets means that you have to be very careful when taking prednisone tablets.  If you take prednisone tablets for inflammatory issues, you also inevitably lower your immune system activity whilst trying to treat your inflamed issue.  Although your condition gets treated, you are however, more vulnerable to infections during your prednisone tablets treatment.
